Surface Textures on Bowls & Teabowls - Wood Fire Edition

We’ll be exploring different surface texture effects and techniques specifically chosen to enhance the atmospheric effects of the wood kiln. Pieces made in this class will be wood fired by your instructor off-site and brought back to the studio for pick up. Each piece will have a unique finish based on where it was loaded in the kiln, no one piece will be the same! Students should be able to center a minimum of 2 lbs comfortably on the wheel.
*Due to kiln space availability, each student will receive one cubic square foot of space for firing (12x12x12).
*A quick trimming demo will be shown, but students are expected to trim their pieces during open studio time.
Curriculum
Week 1: Throwing off the Hump
Week 2: Textured Surfaces Using Rollers
Week 3: Textured Surfaces Using Faceting
Week 4: Textured Surfaces and Surface Decor Using Slip
*A quick trimming demo will be shown, but students are expected to trim their pieces during open studio time.
Class Policies
Class fees cover instructed class time, use of tools and equipment, studio glazes, kiln firings and 1x bag of 25 lbs of clay (clay body is chosen at the discretion of the instructor to ensure desirable results from the wood kiln). Additional clay is not available for purchase at this time as each student is limited to one cubic square feet of kiln space.
To cancel this workshop, please email us and request cancellation. The cancellation request must be received 1 month prior to workshop start. If the cancellation request is received 1 month prior to the start of the class, a refund (minus $20 processing fee) will be granted. We are unable to accommodate cancellation requests received less than 1 month prior to class start unless a replacement is found.
No make up classes are available if you miss a session.
Classes are subject to change if the minimum student quota isn't met (5 students).
