Course Duration: 6 weeks, July 16th - August 20th

This course is designed for first-time potters or for those who are looking to review beginner foundations before moving on to the next level.
Beginner courses will start with the very basics of working with clay and take you through a step by step process of making a piece to finishing a piece. You will be introduced to the basics of wheel throwing, an overview of the different stages of clay, and various other techniques like trimming and handle attachments. Finally we will end with glazing and how to add the finishing touches to complete your piece.
Members will receive a 20% discount on classes. Members please reach out to Common Clay Space staff for a discount code prior to signing up for class.
Curriculum
Week 1: Studio Tour & Orientation, Wedging Clay, Centering and Pulling
Week 2: Intro to Trimming, Centering Review, Cups
Week 3: Mugs, Handles, Scoring/Slipping Attachments
Week 4: Throwing Plates, Intro to Surface Design & Texture
Week 5: Introduction to Underglaze/Glazing
Week 6: Glazing, Finishing a Fired Piece, Shelf Clean Up
Class Policies
Class fees cover instructed class time, use of tools and equipment, open studio hours, studio glazes, kiln firings and 1x bag of 25 lbs of clay (clay body is chosen at the discretion of the instructor).
The first class is mandatory to attend as we go over studio procedures and safety rules.
To cancel a class, please email us and request cancellation. The cancellation request must be received two weeks prior to class start. If the cancellation request is received two weeks prior to the start of the class, a refund (minus $20 processing fee) will be granted. We are unable to accommodate cancellation requests received less than two weeks prior to class start.
If you miss a class, each 6 week session will include a one time make up class. Make up classes are scheduled on the Sunday of the last week of the session. Please check with your instructor for details. The instructor for the make up class may not be the same instructor as your regular class. Make up classes may have students from other sessions.
Any items left behind 15 days after the final class meeting may be discarded. Reasonable attempts will be made to contact you for pickup prior to staff discarding said items.
Non member students will receive complimentary studio access outside of class hours during designated open studio hours.
Complimentary open studio hours only apply to the classroom wheels.
Classes are subject to change if the minimum student quota isn't met (6 students).
